Since 2003 · Barcelona
We exist because the world is not yet safe for everyone.
In more than 70 countries, being LGBTIQ+ is persecuted by law. When someone flees that and arrives in Barcelona, the struggle doesn’t end: a new one begins. ACATHI exists to be there at that moment.
Our mission
We support LGBTIQ+ migrants and refugees so they can live with dignity, safety and rights — from their arrival to full autonomy.
Our vision
A fully inclusive society where no one has to choose between their identity and their safety, where borders are not barriers to the freedom to be oneself.
What sets us apart
We were born where two realities meet.
Many organisations work with migrants. Many organisations work with LGBTIQ+ people. ACATHI was born precisely where both realities meet.
We are an organisation created by LGBTIQ+ migrants and refugees that understands protection is not only about responding to an emergency, but about guaranteeing rights, strengthening autonomy and building community.
We support people. Legal, psychosocial, residential and community support.
We strengthen community. Safe spaces, support networks and belonging.
We transform systems. Research, knowledge and policy advocacy.
